>Tween Review: Oh. My. Gods. by Tera Lynn Childs

Oh. My. Gods. When Phoebe’s mom returns from Greece with a new husband and plans to move to an island in the Aegean Sea, Phoebe’s well-plotted senior year becomes ancient history. Now, instead of enjoying a triumphant track season and planning for college with her best friends, Phoebe is trying to keep her head above water at the uberexclusive Academy. If it isn’t hard enough being the new kid in school, Phoebe’s classmates are all descendents of the Greek gods! When you’re running against teammates with superpowers, dealing with a stepsister from Hades, and nursing a crush on a boy who is quite literally a god, the drama takes on mythic proportions!

With all the heavy and dark books on the market for the young adult crowd, it is no wonder that we need some happier and fun books to lighten the load every now and then. Tera Lynn Childs is an author I turn to for such a task. Her books are funny, entertaining and un-put-downable!

In Oh. My. Gods. we are introduced to Childs modern day take on Greek Mythology (think Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson for girls). The heroine, Phoebe is in the middle of a highschool crisis. Her mother has re-married and  is uprooting Phoebe to live in the Aegean sea. As any young girl in school will tell you, this is totally un-cool. I mean, we work so hard for getting into programs, trying out for sports and our popularity status that moving can feel like the end of the world…and for Phoebe it does. Especially when she is sent to a special Academy where all the other students think they are a god…well, in this case they kind of are but all the same….it’s a HUGE deal!

Keeping secrets, felling like an outcast, adjusting to a new family in a foreign land….all of those things are issues that can really weigh a girl down. But then, Phoebe manages to get a spot on the divine track team (even though she isn’t one of the divine) and then a total hottie enters the picture and gives Phoebe something to look forward to in her new home.

Readers will stay glued to the pages following Phoebe’s new adventures of trying to find her place and sympathize with her ordeals and homesick feelings…It’s tough being a kid.

Tera Lynn Childs has written an ubercute story that is sure to put a smile on the face of those who read it–It did for me!
