More about ‘The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making’ :

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own MakingTwelve-year-old September lives in Omaha, and used to have an ordinary life, until her father went to war and her mother went to work. One day, September is met at her kitchen window by a Green Wind (taking the form of a gentleman in a green jacket), who invites her on an adventure, implying that her help is needed in Fairyland. The new Marquess is unpredictable and fickle, and also not much older than September. Only September can retrieve a talisman the Marquess wants from the enchanted woods, and if she doesn?t . . . then the Marquess will make life impossible for the inhabitants of Fairyland. September is already making new friends, including a book-loving Wyvern and a mysterious boy named Saturday.
With exquisite illustrations by acclaimed artist Ana Juan, Fairyland lives up to the sensation it created when the author first posted it online. For readers of all ages who love the charm of Alice in Wonderland and the soul of The Golden Compass, here is a reading experience unto itself: unforgettable, and so very beautiful.

>Desi’s Favorite Book Boys + GIVEAWAY

I wanted in on the action this week. So, I did what young girls do best…I whined and begged and persisted until the grown-ups caved. 🙂

You see, I LOVE books and I absolutely LOVE the boy characters in them. I mean, I guess it’s a version of sex appeal. I’m all for girl power and all that jazz, but I don’t just want to read about kick-butt heroines because that would get old for me real quick! After all, what would Katniss be without Peeta or Gale? The answer is easy- less likeable.

You may think I’m going to pick Peeta or Gale because of my above statement…a year ago that may have been true. And while I am and will always remain hardcore TEAM PEETA (I have the shirt to prove it;) and sometimes call myself Mrs. Mellark, that fact of the matter is Mockingjay kind of bursted by bubble on a lot of my fan girly obsession with that particular series. Lucky for me, there are many amazing books and fictional hotties to get carried away with. Since I cannot pick only one I am going to pick FOUR!!! *squee*

In no particular order–the first book hottie that is pretty darn awesome is Cole from Maggie Stiefvater’s Wolves of Mercy Falls series.  *SIGH*

Cole is a a kick butt guy in a very laid back manner. He is a musician and rock star that just happens to be a scientific genius. The son of uber smart parents, Cole ran off to get lost in the world and lost his way instead. When readers fist meet Cole in Linger, he is at his very worst and there isn’t much to actually like about him. He cheats, he does drugs, he lies and he is an awful best friend…however, all of those thing are actions that Cole has begun doing to mask the pain and insecurity he is feeling. When Cole ropes his bestfriend into doing a new drug that is supposed to gaurantee the best high ever, it is his friend who pays the ultimate price. This jolts Cole a little from his self pity party and with the help of the other characters in Mercy Falls, Cole really steps up to the plate in a big way in Linger and Forever.

I like Cole because he is the bad boy that really isn’t. In fact, I think that if Cole wasn’t so friggin hot he may be kinda geeky–at least in a paralell universe/series.;)

My second book hottie is none other than Denver Beck from Jana Oliver’s Demon Trapper’s Daughter series. Ok, so technically I really shouldn’t be crushing on him cuz he’s like older and all but he is AWESOME! Beck is described as a southern good ole boy that is military trained and traps demons for a living. He is full of charm and lots of wise guy remarks. Tall, fit, blond with an accent… Wanna see how I picture Beck? OK!

Brad Pitt in the early 90’s

*Deep breath-Exhale* Ummmm….yeah. Besides the obvious attraction that my mental picture conjures up, Beck is also a character that has a heart behind that tough guy, witty exterior. He is protective of those he cares for and really good at what he does. Seriously. What girl wouldn’t feel a little safer with a professional demon trapper trained to battle the forces of evil by her side? I know I would. Too bad he’s like in his twenties. Oh well, that is why fictional boys are perfect;).

Okie dokie, on to my third book hottie. The following character is one that I have been crazy about for a while now. His character has been through so much and suffered because of the people and situations surrounding him. Most of the time he is able to joke about things when everything starts feeling too heavy but recent events in this guys life have brought out a darker side to his personality. Who am I talking about?

Shane Collins from Rachel Caine’s Morganville series. Poor Shane! He has had so much bad stuff happen to those he cares about. Shane is passionately protective of those he cares about (including his housemates and girlfriend) and though he comes off as lazy, he is able to get the job done when needed. Despite the recent twist in his personality, deep down Shane is still the fun loving albeit quick tempered character I adore. Anyone for a video game and Hot Dog or maybe a Brisket Taco? 😉

I saved the newest addition to my prestigious list for last. My number four favorite book boy is from Divergent by Veronica Roth. Those that have read the new dystopian book can probably guess who it is but for those late to hop on the Divergent train, I am referring to the character of Four.

Actor Matt Lanter is somewhat Four-like in looks

In the world in which Four lives he is an 18 year old Dauntless trainer(and computer guy). He is in charge of assisting the new recruits in their training. He is somewhat distant and cold at first but that is largely due to the hidden past and secrets he masks. There are only 4 things that Four fears and he has trained himself to face them despite the overwhelming terror he feels from those fears. He is very skilled with weapons and a tough opponent. Four is quite charming and oddly funny when he lets his guard down and when he likes a girl, well lets just say that even reading about it makes me grin like a loon and my face flush.

Well, there you have it, my TOP FOUR favorite fictional guys and the reasons I love them. The thing with book crushes is that unlike a real life boyfriend or crush, I want the world to love them as much as I do. So, I am going to give you all a chance to discover why I love them so much. I am going to giveaway a very special prize. One lucky person will get books featuring all my favorite guys. *SQUEE*

A behaviorist. A techno-wizard. An intuitive. A former Navy SEAL. Unconventional operatives. All with unique talents and personal reasons for being part of Casey’s group, they’ll do whatever it takes.

Able to accurately read people after the briefest of encounters, Casey leads her crew to Krissy’s home. There, she picks up the signs of a nervous spouse, a guilty conscience, a nanny that hides on her cell. She watches as secrets beg to creep into the open.

Forensic Instincts will dig through each tiny clue and eliminate the clutter. But time is running out, and even working around the clock, the authorities are bound by the legal system. Not so Casey’s team. >Interview with Shiloh Walker + GIVEAWAY of Hunter’s Fall with swag!

*This Giveaway is Now CLOSED*

Shiloh Walker has been writing since she was a kid. She fell in love with vampires with the book Bunnicula and has worked her way up to the more…ah…serious works of fiction. She loves reading and writing anything paranormal, anything fantasy, and nearly every kind of romance. Once upon a time she worked as a nurse, but now she writes full time and lives with her family in the Midwest. She writes paranormal and contemporary romance, as well as romantic suspense.

Q- What made you finally decide to write Nessa’s story?

A- It wasn’t so much of an active decision on my part. It was that Nessa was ready for her story to be told. I’m not one of the writers who plots things out-the stories come as they are ready to be told and Nessa was finally read to let me tell her story.

Q- The world of The Hunter’s and Nessa’s journey in particular, go to some rather dark places. Is it ever difficult to go there and expose that dark side of human nature through your characters?

A- Not really. If the story didn’t naturally flow that way and I tried to force it, then yes, it would be hard, but I just go with what the story wants.

Q- With the Hunter’s world being made of various supernatural beings (Were’s Vampires, Witches) did you base your mythology on any existing folklore and what kind of research have you done for the different spells used in your stories?

A- Well, I’ve always read a lot of paranormal and fantasy works and I’ve read up a lot of the folklore behind vampires and werewolves, but that’s the closest to ‘true’ research I can say I’ve done. With the Hunters, it’s mostly just imagination, I’m afraid.

Q- Readers get to know the character of the vampire Hunter, Dominic Ralston in Hunter’s Fall. His back story seems very sad and emotional, will we learn more about him in future books or short stories?

The Hunters: Rafe and Sheila (Book 6)A- Dominic’s story was actually relayed in an older book of mine-it was released from Ellora’s Cave some time ago. The book was Hunters: Rafe and Sheila and Dominic was introduced then as a college student. I knew the minute he came onto the page that he’d have a story, and I had a feeling it would be with Nessa. It just took a while for both of them to be ready.

Q- As the series has progressed the world has gotten more complex. What is it like writing such a long series, how many more books can fans anticipate?

A- Oh, that’s a question I have no answer for. I’ll continue writing the books as long as the stories keep coming to me easily. If it gets to the point that I’m forcing them or they feel like they are becoming redundant, I’ll move on. Nothing sucks so much as a series that’s gone stale.

Q- Which couple from the Hunter’s World did you find most rewarding to create and why?

A- Probably Dom and Nessa…because it took so long to tell their story.

Q- Do you have any mental images for some of the Hunters…inquiring minds want to know;)?

A- Afraid not-I have images in my mind, but I rarely see anybody that matches them.

Q- What is next for you? Anything you can tease us with?

A- The next book due out is an ebook, one of my Grimm stories, called LOCKED IN SILENCE. After that, my romantic suspense series from Ballantine, which I’m so nervous about. Afraid I can’t give you details on that one, though…I’m keeping it close to my chest. I do have excerpts from the books posted at my site, if the readers want to check it out.

*Paperback dolls wish to thank Shiloh Walker for taking the time to answer our questions. Hunter’s Fall is available NOW for purchase. Be sure to visit the author on her:

Hunter's Fall (The Hunters)Nessa lost her memory following a near-death experience. Dominic is a Hunter dealing with his own problems with memory and sanity. When the two are put together to battle the forces of darkness-while trying to restore what they’ve lost-their all-consuming passion becomes an even greater unknown.

The Prize!

>Guest Blog & Giveaway: Where the Boys Are by Tara Lain

Many thanks to the Dolls for inviting me today to celebrate the release of my new book The Scientist and the Supermodel. Since the book is about two beautiful men, I thought it would be fun to stalk some gorgeous men around the world. I’ve been blessed to travel a lot in my life. I’m an Army brat so as a child I lived in Austria and Japan and all over the US. As an adult, I’ve traveled extensively, some for business and a lot for pleasure. I get little souvenirs from all the places I visit, I collect memories of fantastic meals and experiences … and I catalog where to find the best-looking men! I hasten to explain that this is purely aesthetic. I am very happily married to a handsome guy who takes all these great trips with me, but I love looking at beautiful men. If you read my books, you’ll know this. Many of my heroes are just a bit more gorgeous than may be possible (have you met Roan Black?). LOL. But I have had some great models. So if you’re interested in finding the beautiful guys of the world, here’s my road-map.

  • The most gorgeous men and boys (women too) I have ever seen are in Senegal, Africa. Breathtaking. Out of every ten people you see in Senegal, seven will be good-looking and three will be movie stars. That has to be higher than the usual average. Tall and lean, with broad shoulders, long legs and necks, and beautifully structured faces, these men must spring from the same ancestral blood as many American basketball players. Their skin is smooth ebony and their teeth are brilliant white. I couldn’t stop staring.
  • Danish
  • Denmark and Norway have some yummy men. I shouldn’t group them since there are more blonds in Denmark , but they both show that Viking ancestry. Tall, strong and handsome as a rule rather than pretty, these men make great alpha heroes.
  • Spain
  • In Spain, the ditch-diggers look like movie stars. Smallish, with dark hair and olive skin, they resemble the Italians but often with sharper more architectural features. I went to Spain first as a girl in my early twenties and left my heart.
  • Brazillian
  • While Danes and Norwegians are mostly white and the Senegalese are generally black, the men of Brazil are every shade of the rainbow but blue (that I saw.) Tall, short, black, white and every color of brown, Brazilian’s meet your desire for variety.
  • French
  • The French are not to everyone’s taste, but I love them. Tending to be of medium height (though both extremes are common), slender with sharp features and the famous long noses, French men include some of the handsomest and ugliest guys around. But then, the French even make ugly handsome.

Forgive all my generalities. The world is a melting pot and you can find every type of man everywhere. But still, it makes you want to take a trip, doesn’t it?

Jake has a mad hidden passion for his older boss, Emmaline Silvay, so why is he getting all hot and bothered when he sees this gorgeous man in a bar? Though Jake thinks of himself as straight, he’s been having a lot of trouble getting excited about any of the girls he’s dated. He doesn’t have any such trouble with the supermodel, which throws his whole world into confusion. Roan Black knows better than to fall for some straight guy, especially a PhD scientist who couldn’t possibly be interested in a high school dropout, could he? Well, maybe they can just have sex ….

Tara Lain never met a beautiful boy she didn’t love – at least on paper. A writer of erotic romance, mostly ménage and male/male, Tara loves all her characters, but especially her handsome heroes. A lifelong writer of serious non-fiction, Tara only fell in love with EROM in 2009 and, through perseverance and lots of workshops, had the first novel she ever wrote accepted for publication in 2010. She’s now on book six. After an exotic life of travel all over the world and work in television, education and advertising, Tara settled in Southern California with her soul-mate husband and opened her own small marketing business. She paints, collages, and started practicing yoga “way before it was fashionable”. Passionate about diversity, justice, inclusion and new ideas she says on her tombstone it will read, “Yes”.
